Mauritius is an island country in the Indian Ocean, about 2,000 kilometers away from the southeastern coast of the African continent and about 900 km east of Madagascar. The central part is plateau-like, and the northern part is a coastal plain.
The island country has an area of 2,045 sq. km in the southwestern part of the Indian Ocean. It includes the island of Mauritius and the smaller Rodrigues (104 sq. km.), Agalega (71 sq. km.), Kargados – Karajos, etc., with a total coastline of 280 km.
