Ambassador of Republic of Bulgaria calls on the Prime Minister

The Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mrs Maria Tzotzorkova-Kaymaktchieva, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, today, at the Treasury Building in Port-Louis.

Diplomatic relations between Mauritius and Bulgaria which were established in 1975 reach their 50-year milestone this year.

Ambassador Tzotzorkova-Kaymaktchieva is a seasoned diplomat, having previously served as Bulgaria’s Ambassador to South Africa and Armenia. She has held several senior roles within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Ambassador of Bulgaria presents credentials to President Gokhool

Her Excellency Mrs. Maria Tzotzorkova- Kaymaktchieva, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria, presented her credentials to His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, G.C.S.K., President of the Republic of Mauritius, at the State House today.

The long-standing diplomatic relations between Mauritius and Bulgaria, established in 1975, were reviewed, and both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors.

Key areas of mutual interest, including agro- industry, tertiary education, cultural exchange, and people-to-people ties, were discussed.

Technical cooperation in ICT, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure and fintech was highlighted, with President Gokhool proposing a potential memorandum of understanding with the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) in Sofia to promote knowledge exchange and innovation.

Tourism, commerce, and investment were also identified as priorities, with both leaders expressing their intent to implement initiatives to boost trade, attract investment, and enhance tourism.

Her Excellency Ambassador Maria Tzotzorkova- Kaymaktchieva is a seasoned diplomat, having served in several senior roles at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission to the United Nations, among others.

She holds a PhD in Diplomatic History and has completed extensive training in international security, conflict mediation, and foreign policy.

The Ambassador is fluent in English, Spanish, and Russian, and has working knowledge of French and Italian.

As Mauritius and Bulgaria celebrate 50 years of diplomatic ties, President Gokhool underlined the potential to elevate bilateral relations into a strategic partnership, in alignment with the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the Africa 2063 Agenda, promoting inclusive and sustainable growth for both countries.
